MEC Ravi Pillay visits Mbulula Crèche on International Nelson Mandela day

KZN MEC for Finance and Mayor of Umdoni Municipality bring jubilation to Mbulula area, south coast of KZN

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Ravi Pillay, in association with the Mayor of uMdoni Municipality, Thabani Dube, have brought smiles and jubilation to over 50 children of Mbulula Crèche, and their parents when they jointly spent their 67 minutes painting, gardening and making necessary donations to better the condition of the crèche.

Mbulula Crèche, situated in ward 5, KwaDumisa area under uMdoni Municipality, is one of the impoverished crèches in the area. Pillay and Dube dedicated their Mandela Day trying to improve the lives of children and the condition of the crèche.

Addressing the parents and children, Dube said the choice of the crèche was based on their challenges and it was not a difficult decision to come and lend a helping hand in the spirit of Mandela Day.

Pillay said the late former president, Dr Nelson Mandela, loved children and education and Mbulula Crèche was an obvious choice.

“As government, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of communities. It is particularly special when we do it in a Madiba Spirit. Education is important and raising children well is equally important. They are the future of this country,” said Pillay.

Pillay further donated 20 mattresses, 50 blankets, a fridge, urn, microwave, kettle and colouring books and pencils. He further planted a mango tree donated by the Department of Agriculture in a bid to ensure that children grow their own fruits. The Department of Health also donated toothbrushes for the children.

Pillay then joined the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, in a string of other Mandela Day events in Pietermaritzburg.
