KwaZulu-Natal wishes Minister Zweli Mkhize and his wife a speedy recovery from Coronavirus COVID-19

KZN command council chairperson Premier Sihle Zikalala wishes Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize and his wife dr May Mkhize a speedy recovery from covid-19.

The KwaZulu-Natal Covid -19 Command Council, under the leadership of Premier Mr Sihle Zikalala, wishes Dr Zweli Mkhize and his wife Dr May Mkhize a speedy recovery from COVID - 19.

This follows a statement yesterday confirming that the Minister and his wife have tested positive after noticing mild symptoms of the virus recently.

Reacting to these reports, Premier Zikalala said: "We are always concerned when any individual tests positive, because that becomes a grim reminder that this deadly and incurable virus is still in our midst. "Dr Mkhize is a pillar and key figure in the gallant fight that South Africa has waged against COVID - 19 since the first case was confirmed on 5 March 2020.

"He has stood firm, leading from the front with remarkable courage at the most trying and uncertain times, when the unprecedented COVID - 19 virus was infecting and killing scores of people on a daily basis.

"Like the leader of fine calibre that we have always known Dr Mkhize to be, he has consistently shown a steady hand and has been unflinching, giving hope at a time of hopelessness.

"We also know the stress and concern that his constant and direct exposure to the virus brought about to his family, particularly to his wife and close staff members.

"Now that both he and his wife have been directly affected by the virus, the least we can do at this time is rally around them, keep them in our thoughts, and pray for their recovery."
