KwaZulu-Natal poised for an R800 million shot in the arm with the hosting of the biggest football event since the 2010 FIFA world cup
KwaZulu-Natal continues to add more to its portfolio of billions rand worth of mega events and projects with the province proving once more that it is in the league of its own when it comes to hosting mega global conferences.
The recent vote of confidence comes from the World Football Summit (WFS) following KwaZulu-Natal’s successful bid to host the Summit and this is a first for the African continent.
Durban was chosen among a crop of other global powerhouses which included Hong Kong, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Canada with which the City was competing after being invited to do so in September 2018.
The WFS requested KwaZulu-Natal Convention Bureau to bid for the World Football Summit 2020 which, in a decade, will be the biggest event after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
WFS is the international event of football industry, gathering the most influential professionals in order to discuss the most relevant topics and generate business opportunities. WFS brings together 80+ countries, 2300+ attendees, 90+ speakers, 160+ clubs, 70% executives, 100+ media with an estimated economic impact of about R800million.
The MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Sihle Zikalala invites members of the media to a press briefing to unpack the issue.
Mr Zikalala will also use the opportunity to announce other major upcoming events and programme worth more than R200 billion to KwaZulu-Natal and the economic impact these will have for a province that is showing an upward economic trajectory amid slowing economic growth and outlook.
