Deputy Minister Nokuzola Capa hands over equipment to informal business owners in KwaMashu, 21 Oct

Kwazulu-Natal informal traders receive critical equipment from Department of Small Business Development

Deputy Minister of Small Business Development Ms. Nokuzola Capa together with eThekwini Municipality leadership, will on Wednesday, 21 October 2020 hand over tools and equipment to 46 informal business owners in eThekwini Metro, KwaZulu Natal. The ceremony will take place at the KwaMashu Sports Centre.

“In order to reverse the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on small businesses and cooperatives, we ought to urgently provide some support to these entrepreneurs and through this pragmatic intervention by the Department of Small Business Development, not only will this be a form of relief but will certainly improve their competitiveness and bring up profitability, explains DM Capa.

The handover ceremony is expected to be attended by local traders, community members, trading chambers and forums as well as members of the media. The equipment valued at approximately R600 000,00 will benefit enterprises operating mostly in hairdressing, clothing, baking, construction, catering, retail and services sectors. 

Mayor of eThekwini, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda said: “In our quest to stimulate and facilitate the development of sustainable and competitive enterprises in the metro, we are embracing this partnership with the Department of Small Business Development, we think our micro and informal traders will equally appreciate the support.”

The Informal and Micro Enterprises Development Programme (IMEDP) is a 100% grant offered by the Department of Small Business Development which is aimed at improving sustainability and competitiveness of small businesses and cooperatives including informal traders.
