KwaZulu-Natal Director-General Nonhlanhla Mkhize hosts Technical Lekgotla

KwaZulu-Natal Director-General Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize today hosted a Technical Lekgotla, in preparation for the Provincial Executive Council Lekgotla which is scheduled for next week.

"We had a very productive session of the Technical Lekgotla, whose aim was to conduct a half-year review, where we check how far we are in terms of the annual performance plan for the year 2020-2021 , as well as to start looking ahead into the 2021-2022 performance plan," said Dr Mkhize.'

The Technical Lekgotla was attended by the Premier's Special Advisors, the Provincial Planning Commission, Heads of Departments, CEO's of public entities, as well as Deputy Directors-General from all provincial government departments.

"We were able to conduct a review of the Provincial Growth and Development Plan (PGDP), as well as robust discussions on the implementation of the Provincial Economic Transformation plan in line with a presentation by the country's President, H.E. Mr Cyril Ramaphosa."

She said the Lekgotla also discussed catalytic projects for the province in line with the Infrastructure Master Plan as well as the District Development Model. The meeting was held in a

hybrid format, with some participants joining discussions in a virtual platform, in line with Covid-19 health regulations.

"We would like to bring to the attention of all public service employees that the provision of high quality service delivery to all citizens is still our primary goal, and we still need to

maintain a high level of accountability to the public that we service," said Dr Mkhize.

"It is imperative for government, to continue providing these services even as we navigate the impact and effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.'

Dr Mkhize echoed warnings from both President Ramaphosa and KwaZulu-Natal Premier @SihleZikalala that all citizens need to continue practicing all safety measures aimed at

preventing the spread of the virus.

"The fact that we are now at Alert Level I does not mean that the virus is gone. We need to continue ensuring that we protect ourselves, our loved ones and our communities by practicing all the health regulations including the regular washing of hands, social distancing and the wearing of face masks in public spaces.' said Dr Mkhize.
