Parliament adopts bilateral treaties between United Arab Emirates and National Health Laboratory Service Amendment Bill

Houses of Parliament adopt bilateral treaties and Bill

The National Assembly (NA) during its plenary sitting on 15 November 2018 approved the ratifications on the Extradition Treaty between the Government of South Africa and the Government of the United Arab Emirates. The House further approved the ratifications on the treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between the two countries.

The treaties will enable both South Africa and United Arab Emirates to assist each other in the investigation and prosecution of crimes through mutual legal assistance and the extradition of fugitives

During it's plenary sitting this afternoon, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), passed the National Health Laboratory Service Amendment Bill.

The Bill amends the 2000 Act to improve governance, accountability and financial sustainability of the National Health Laboratory Service. It will enable the National Health Laboratory to provide more cost-effective and efficient diagnostic health laboratory services, thereby increasing the quality of clinical care provided to patients through timely and judicious clinical management.

The National Assembly passed the Bill on 24 April and it was then referred to the NCOP for concurrence.
