Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is hosting a media tour that will be led by the Minister in the Presidency, Mondli Gungubele together with the Head of Infrastructure Office in the Presidency, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa at Musina Local Municipality to assess the progress made at the construction of Musina Ring Road infrastructure project.
The R640-million construction of the new ring road from Musina South to Musina North commenced in December 2019 and will be completed in 2022. The Musina Ring Road will divert traffic from the N1 in town by providing a bypass around town.
Currently, an estimation of over 1000 heavy vehicles use the N1 road and pass through Musina city center on a daily basis; intersections and lower speed restrictions create heavy traffic congestion and damage to infrastructure in the central business district of the town. The road will ease congestion between Musina and Beit Bridge border post, which is a gateway to many other Sothern African Development Community countries that trade with South Africa such as Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The construction of the Musina Ring Road forms part of the government’s infrastructure projects programme, which is part of the overall Economic Recovery Plan that seeks to create employment opportunities across various sectors and communities.
