Government activities for the week, 25 Feb to 3 Mar

Government has scheduled the following briefings/activities for the week: 25 February – 03 March 2019. The activities, which are aligned to the National Development Plan and outlined in the Medium Term Strategic Framework 2014-2019, are undertaken to build a better South Africa.
 

  • The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Advocate Michael Masutha, will on Monday, 25 February, brief the media on the Bosasa contracts and other irregular contracts within the Justice and Correctional Services portfolio. Minister Masutha, Deputy Ministers, Mr John Jeffery and Mr Thabang Makwetla, will be joined at the briefing by the accounting officers of departments and entities within the Justice and Correctional Services portfolio. The briefing will be held at GCIS Head Office, Tshedimosetso House in Pretoria at 10h00, with a video Iink to Imbizo Media Centre, Parliament in Cape Town.
     
  • On Monday, 25 February, the Minister of Energy, Mr Jeff Radebe, will deliver a keynote address at South African Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Systems Conference hosted by the World Bank Group at the Cape Town International Convention at 09h00.
     
  • Minister of Police, Mr Bheki Cele will on Monday, 25 February, host a community engagement (imbizo) with the community of Mamelodi. The need to further engage the community on policing matters aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Mamelodi, follows the announcement two weeks ago by Minister Cele of the new Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mawela.
     
  • The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Zweli Mkhize, will on Monday, 25 February, deliver a keynote address at the Consultative Conference of the CRL Rights Commission at the St George Hotel in Pretoria at 09h00. This is the last conference for the current CRL commissioners as their term of office is coming to an end in March 2019. On Tuesday, 26 February, Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize will officially welcome 93 young graduates in the built environment fields who are part of the Young Graduates Programme of the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park at 09h00.  On Thursday, 28 February, Deputy Minister of CoGTA, Mr Obed Bapela, will attend the official opening of the Eastern Cape Provincial House of Traditional Leaders.
     
  • The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe, will on Monday, 25 February, host a certification ceremony for 17 Tourism Resource Efficiency trainees at Mayfair Hotel in Mthatha, Eastern Cape Province. From 26 to 27 February, the Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom, will attend Meetings Africa at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The Department of Tourism will host a certification ceremony for 13 Tourism Resource Efficiency trainees at Metsi Matsho Lodge in Free State on 28 February. On Friday, 1 March, the Deputy Minister, Ms Thabethe will lead an educational tour to the Howick area vineyards, KwaZulu-Natal for the Wine Service Youth trainees.
     
  • The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Luwellyn Landers, will participate in a series of meetings at the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council 40th Session in Geneva, Switzerland from 25-27 February.
     
  • The Department of Environmental Affairs, together with Ehlanzeni District Municipality will embark on a robust public awareness drive by visiting schools in an effort to urge South Africans to take a step towards the protection and conservation of wetlands in the province of Mpumalanga from 25 to 28 February.
     
  • The Department of Labour’s Public Employment Services branch in partnership with the Employment Services board will be conducting week-long public hearings to engage with all stakeholders in the labour market on the recently-released four draft employment services regulations. The public hearings will be held as follows:
    • Gauteng (Pretoria/Johannesburg) on 25 February
    • Western Cape (Cape Town), KwaZulu-Natal (Durban), North West (Rustenburg) on 26 February
    • Eastern Cape (East London), Northern Cape (Kimberley), Mpumalanga (Witbank) on 27 February
    • Free State (Bloemfontein), Limpopo (Polokwane) on 28 February
       
  • An innovative pharmacy automation robot for medicine dispensing will be showcased at the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems ManuVation 4.0 Workshop, taking place at the CSIR ICC in Pretoria, on 25 and 26 February. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has partnered with Right ePharmacy, a company that dispenses, distributes and collects medication, to develop business opportunities and innovations so that medicines can be dispensed digitally, in a more cost-effective, convenient and accurate way.
     
  • The Minister of Science and Technology, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, will unveil the first images from South Africa's ZACube-2 nanosatellite when she delivers the keynote address at a plenary briefing to be hosted by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology on Tuesday, 26 February.
     
  • The Department of Trade and Industry, will on Wednesday, 27 February, host a seminar on Alternative Dispute Resolution at Mandela Institute (Wits University) in Johannesburg. The seminar is aimed at making stakeholders and members of the public aware of the Tribunal's ADR mechanism of resolving company disputes.
     
  • President Cyril Ramaphosa will, on Thursday, 28 February, officially open Vedanta Zinc International’s Gamsberg Mine at Vedanta Gamsberg mine, Gamsberg, near Aggeneys in the Northern Cape at 08h00.
     
  • The Black Business Council will be hosting a two-day Black Business Summit from 28 February to 01 March at the Ballroom, Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. The Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr Pravin Gordhan will deliver the opening address. President Cyril Ramaphosa will also give a keynote speech at the Gala dinner event.
