Government activities for the week 25 – 31 Mar

Government has scheduled the following briefings/activities for the week: 25 – 31 March 2019. The activities, which are aligned to the National Development Plan and outlined in the Medium Term Strategic Framework 2014-2019, are undertaken to build a better South Africa.

• From 25 to 26 March, South Africa and Namibia will co-host the SADC Solidarity Conference on Western Sahara in Pretoria. This comes after the 37th Summit of the SADC Heads of State and Government resolved to convene the Solidarity Conference with Western Sahara.
• The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, John Jeffery, will on Monday, 25 March, lead a discussion to launch the National Action Plan (NAP) to Combat Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, which has now been approved by Cabinet. The launch will be held at Saint George’s Hotel in Pretoria at 10h00.
• The Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, will on Tuesday 26 March, launch an iconic monument of the Map of Africa that is poised to attract more tourists to the southern tip of the continent at the Agulhas National Park in Western Cape at 10h00. The Iconic Map of Africa Monument at the Southern Most Tip of Africa is one of the infrastructure features commissioned and developed at the Agulhas National Park by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with South African National Parks (SANParks), to enhance visitor experience and boost the local tourism economy.
• The Minister of Energy, Jeff Radebe, will on Tuesday 26 March, deliver an opening address at the Southern African Ministerial Panel at the 8th annual DLO Africa Power Roundtable in Sandton, Johannesburg at 09h00. The conference will focus on investment opportunities in the energy sectors across the Southern African region of the continent, including South Africa.
• On Thursday, 28 March, government together with representatives of civil society organisations will host the Presidential launch of the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Declaration as well as the opening of the Booysens Magistrates’ Court in Oakdene South of Johannesburg.
• The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Elizabeth Thabethe, will host a certification ceremony for learners that completed the 12 month long Youth Hospitality Training Programme in Bloemfontein on Friday, 29 March.
