Government activities for the week, 15 May to 20 May

Government has scheduled the following briefings/activities for the week 15 – 20 May 2018. The activities, which are aligned to the National Development Plan and outlined in the Medium Term Strategic Framework 2014-2019, are undertaken to build a better South Africa.

  • The Department of Basic Education and Nestlé South Africa will on Tuesday, 15 May, host a panel discussion on the value and importance of driving nutrition and physical education amongst school going children in South Africa.  Among the panellists will be Mr Norman Mphake from the Physical Education Institute of South Africa, Ms. Neo Rakwena of the DBE’s National School’s Nutrition Programme, Mrs. Naazneen Sali-Ameen from Nestlé South Africa, Professor Jeanette Kearney from Vaal University of Technology and independent Dietitian Mrs. Lebogang Roda.
  • The Statistician-General of South Africa, Risenga Maluleke, will on Tuesday, 15 May, release the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) for the first quarter of 2018 at no 1 Koch Street, Salvokop, ISibalo House, Pretoria 9Stats SA offices).
  • President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Deputy President David Mabuza as his Special Envoy to the Russian Federation. The Deputy President will meet with President Vladimir Putin on 15 May, to amongst others, convey President Ramaphosa’s message of congratulation to President Putin on his re-election in March and his subsequent inauguration on 7 May 2018 as President of the Russian Federation.
  • President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Tuesday, 15 May, Co-Chair the International Labour Organisation Global Commission on the Future of Work in Geneva, Switzerland. President Ramaphosa and the Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven, will co-chair the 28 member Commission to oversee the preparation of a major report on the future of work which will be published in early 2019 and will try to understand and make proposals on how to respond effectively to new challenges.
  • The Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services Dr Siyabonga Cwele and Deputy Minister Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will on 15 May, visit the Gugulethu Library to monitor the use of the Wi Fi connectivity which was sponsored by the Department in 2016 as part of the ways of lowering the cost of data in underserved areas in six Metropolitan Municipalities.
  • Deputy Minister Buti Manamela will on Friday, 18 May, host high school learners for a tour of Sci-Bono discovery centre at 08:00 am. The Deputy Minister will also host a roundtable discussion called BackChat at SABC, which will be live on Ikwekwezi FM at 17:00. The theme will be “Human Resource development, skills and the fourth industrial revolution.’”

  • The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa and Deputy Minister Barbara Thomson, will on Wednesday, 16 May brief the media on the Department’s Budget Vote at 16:00 pm in the E 249 National Assembly building.  
  • The Minister of Higher Education, Naledi Pandor together with Deputy Minister Buti Manamela will on Thursday, 17 May, present their departmental budget vote speech at 14:00 in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The Minister of Public Works Thulas Nxesi together with his deputy Jeremy Cronin will on Tuesday, 15 May, hold a Pre-Budget Vote media briefing at the Imbizo Media Centre in Parliament at 11:00 am and deliver their Budget vote at 14:00 in the Old Assembly Chamber
  • The Minister of Mineral Resources Gwede Mantashe will on Tuesday, 15 May, brief the media on the department’s budget vote at 10:00 am at the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan will on Wednesday, 16 May brief the media on the department’s budget vote at 14:00 am in the National Council of Provinces Chamber.
  •  The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Lindiwe Sisulu will on Tuesday, 15 May at 14:00 pm, brief the media on the department’s budget vote at the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The Minister of Public Service and Administration Ayanda Dlodlo will on Wednesday, 16 May, hosts a Media Breakfast ahead of the department’s Budget Vote at 16:00 pm in the Old Assembly Chamber.
  • The Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe will on Thursday, 17 May, brief the media on the department’s budget vote at 14:00 am in the National Council of Provinces Chamber.
  • The Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba will on Wednesday, 16 May, brief the media on the department’s budget vote at 14:00 am in the Old Assembly Chamber.
  • The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Senzeni Zokwana will on Wednesday, 16 May, brief the media on the department’s budget vote at 14:00 pm in the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The Office of the Chief Justice and Judicial Administration will on Wednesday, 16 May, brief the media on the budget vote at 16:00 pm in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The Minister of Labour will on Tuesday, 15 May deliver the department’s budget vote at 10:00 am in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The minister of CoGTA will on Tuesday, 15 May, deliver the department’s budget vote at 10:00 in the Old Assembly Chamber.
  • The minister of Trade and Industry will on Tuesday, 15 May brief the media on the department’s budget vote at 14:00 in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The Minister of Correctional Services will on Thursday, 17 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 14:00 in the Old Assembly Chamber.
  •  The Minister of Telecommunication and Postal Services will on Thursday, 17 May deliver the department’s budget speech at 14:00 in the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The minister of Small Business Development will on Thursday, 17 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 16:15 in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The Minister of Tourism will on Thursday, 17 May deliver the department’s budget vote at 16:15 in the Old Assembly Chamber.
  • The minister of Women will on Thursday, 17 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 16:15 pm in the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The minister of Transport will on Friday, 18 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 10:00 am in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The minister of Defence and Military Veterans will on Friday, 18 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 10:00 am in the National Assembly Chamber
  •  The minister of State Security will on Friday, 18 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 10:00 am in the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The minister of National Treasury will on Friday, 18 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 10:00 am in the E 249 National Assembly building.
  • The minister of Health will on Tuesday, 15 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 16:15 pm in the National Assembly Chamber.
  • The minister of Police and Independent Police Investigative Directorate will on Tuesday, 15 May, deliver the department’s budget speech at 16:15 pm in the Old Assembly Chamber.
