Gauteng Speaker to visit schools amidst rising number of violent incidents

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Speaker Honourable Ntombi Mekgwe will on the 6th and 7th February 2023 visit schools in Braamfisherville amidst the rising number of violent incidents in schools across the Province.

This comes after a Grade 10 learner was stabbed to death at Geluksdal Secondary School and an incident where an alleged unknown man gained entry at Kagiso Senior Secondary School and stabbed an educator.  The man was allegedly shoot dead by another educator.

The Speaker will be accompanied by members of SAPS and Correctional Services Centre Officials who will conduct random searches on learners to ensure that no learner brings any dangerous weapon or illegal substances into the school premises.

These school visits will see the Speaker raising awareness on the importance of safety in schools and to motivate learners to do well in their studies.
