The MEC for Health Dr Gwen Ramokgopa will on Saturday joined Health Wellness and Happiness Fun Walk (5 km) at the Johannesburg Zoo as part of Health, Wellness and Happiness Campaign launched late last year in a bid to curb lifestyle diseases.
In addition to the walk, various medical schemes – Gems, Medscheme, Discovery Health and Metropolitan Health – who signed a public-private partnership memorandum of understanding with the Gauteng Department of Health on Wednesday, will offer health screenings free of charge to members of the public.
The Health, Wellness and Happiness Campaign aims to instil the habit of living a healthy lifestyle through behaviour change; raise awareness about the risk factors related to unhealthy lifestyle and the importance of prevention of diseases.
