Gauteng Arts and Culture hosts inaugural Afro-Choral Music Festival at State Theatre, 3 Nov

Inaugural Gauteng Afro-Choral Music Festival to set the stage alight at State Theatre

Lovers and fans of choral music including indigenous gospel can look forward to one of its kind musical show, when the inaugural Gauteng Afro-Choral Music Festival takes place this Saturday, 3rd November 2018 at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

The Festival is a showcase of the fusion of traditional African choral music, Western style Composed Choral Music, Orchestral Symphony and accompaniment of Indigenous Gospel Music featuring a total 28 choirs from across Gauteng.

The highlight of the day will see performances by the Klap and Tap legendary choir Barorisi Ba Morena, in tribute to the founders thereof, Ntate and Mme Jacob Tlou.

Another highly anticipated performance will be by Sibongile Khumalo in tribute to her late father and chorale legend, Professor Khabi Mngoma. 

This year’s event is also part of the centenary celebrations of Mama Albertina Sisulu, “A woman of fortitude” in recognition of her courage, discipline, integrity and love for her country.

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts Culture and Recreation Faith Mazibuko will hand over life-time achievement Awards to 3 chorale musical icons for their immense contribution towards indigenous choir/choral music.
