Free State Environmental Affairs hosts dialogue on green economic opportunities, 14 Nov

Climate change is the greatest challenge facing human life and existence today. It has the potential to cause havoc in our ecosystems with very high negative environmental impacts. To address some of the challenges brought about by this, the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) will be hosting a Climate Change and Green Economy Dialogue.

About 60 guests are expected to grace the event with representatives from the municipalities, SMMEs, and academia as they engage in identifying challenges and opportunities in the green economy. Green jobs are economic activities that are geared to preserve or restoring ecosystem and environmental quality

Green Economy is resource efficiency and green production with focus on low carbon emissions and pro employment growth path. It is a system of economic activities related to production, distribution and consumption of goods and services for sustainability.

The concept of “green jobs” symbolizes the transformation of economies, workplaces, enterprises and labour markets into a low-carbon, sustainable economy that provides decent employment opportunities for all.

The dialogue will amongst others try to address the following key economic sectors:
