MEC Tshidi Koloi visits Frankfort housing sites project, 11 Dec

700 services sites for Mafube residents – for houses, security and comfort

MEC Tshidi Koloi and Mayor Mayor J. Sigasa will be in Frankfort visiting the construction of the Sewer and Water Reticulation for the Frankfort 700 housing sites project.
 
The right to a home, the basis for human right and human dignity, will be ascertained for the people of Frankfort, Mafube Local Municipality as MEC M.A Koloi, together with Mayor Sigasa hand over 700 sites to the people of Mafube. They will also visit the construction sites of sewer and water reticulation for these human settlements development sites on 11 December 2020. 
 
The land is approximately 52.4 hectares in extent and approximately 33km from Villiers. The site was initially a green field and has now been fully serviced. 
 
Construction of houses will start early in the next financial year. The sites are meant for Breaking New Ground houses, sites for services such as churches, shops, recreational facilities etc. and some would be allocated to those who wish to build houses for themselves. Latitude: 27°17'S Longitude: 28°31'E  

Location of the Project:  
 
The site is situated to the north of Frankfort and east of the existing township of Namahadi in the Free-State Province, South Africa. It is also situated on the west region of the National route N3, South west of Villiers.  
 
General description of the works  

 
The scope of work entails providing services (sewer and water reticulation) and house connection services in the Frankfort Township for low income household which will be constructed in the next phase.  
 
The reticulation system will be able to sustain the growing population of Frankfort, these services join to the already existing sewer and water reticulation systems of the township. A total number of 680 houses have been serviced for both sewer and water. 

Construction activities include the following activities carried out during the construction period:  

  • Clearing and Grubbing
  • Excavation for pipe connections  
  • Earthworks pipe trenches  
  • Bedding compaction
  • Installation of pipes and fittings  
  • Pressure testing
  • Backfilling after connection  
  • Tie in to existing sewer pump stations
  • Tie in to existing water main
  • Clearing of site as work progresses
  • Reinstating the site conditions.
