Minister of Communications collaborates with Nokia to host a Fourth Industrial Innovation Day targeting young minds in Gauteng

Minister of Communications, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams has joined hands with Nokia to host a Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Innovation Day at the multinational’s corporate office park in Centurion on 15 March 2019.

The event will see government officials, young people who are beneficiaries of the TechnoGirl programme and students at the Leadership in Motion Academy (LIMA), exposed to technological innovations that improve the quality of learning, conservation, transportation and fashion; amongst others.

The Minister is the TechnoGirl brand ambassador, an innovative job-shadowing programme for girls, with a particular bias towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers. The initiative is a flagship programme of the Department of Women, in partnership with UNICEF and the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Connected Schools is a Nokia innovation that extends quality education to all South Africans, using virtual and augmented reality, to create a more immersive experience compared to traditional teaching methods.  Connected conservation uses 360-degree video analysis, in real time, to protect both humans and animals in South Africa’s nature reserves, whilst Connected Industries illustrates the use of high definition video analytics to improve industrial quality and productivity. Connected retail and connected entertainment shows how technology will revolutionize the way we shop, play and engage with each other.
