Employment and Labour on opening of the Thohoyandou Labour Centre

Residents of Thohoyandou and surrounds, who have had to travel over 100 kilometres to access our services, will be glad to know that their Labour Centre which had been closed for several months due to an electrical fault is due to open in a new building.

The re-opening of the offices comes on the onset of the COVID-19 3rd wave and high unemployment rate, which will aim to eradicate poverty amongst clients who often had to choose between buying bread and taking more than one transport to apply for their unemployment benefits.

Chief Director: Provincial Operations, Ms Johannah Machaba said: “Acquiring a building that complies will departmental legislations is a step in the right direction that shows how serious our inspectorate is about enforcing the law.”

Ms Machaba said “it is such a victory for the department to be able to render services to a poverty stricken community of Thohoyandou who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Our officials also had to travel everyday to assist other offices due to an influx of clients caused by the closure”.

Although COVID-19 has limited close contact to avoid the spread of the virus, the majority of clients in Limpopo province do not have access/knowledge to online services hence the need for them to visit Labour offices to access services.”

She added that a rapid response team will be dispatched to the new office to assist with the backlog and ensure that clients get their benefits.

The new office is situated in the CBD area, UIF Building, corner Garden route and Mvusuludzo Streets, (next to BP Garage) and will officially open Monday 14 June 2021.
