EC health MEC to launch public-private sector collaboration to end TB deaths

Government fight to end TB related deaths will receive a major boost this week when Eastern Cape Health MEC Helen Sauls-August officially launches a Public- Private Sector collaboration between the department of Health, AQUITY innovations and private general practictioners in the Nelson Mandela Health District. TB is a leading cause of death and morbidity in South Africa despite being curable and preventable, hence public-private sector collaborations give impetus to ongoing TB screening and prevention strategies. 

March is designated TB month in the health calendar and the department is intensifying efforts, campaigns to end TB related deaths through various campaigns and collaborations. As part of the TB awareness activities, MEC will undertake activities leading up to the official launch of the initiative which include a visit to Korsten Taxi rank where the department will conduct  comprehensive health care screening to taxi drivers and commuters. She will then visit a private surgery in Dwesi of one the private GP’s who will be working on the programme. These activities will be done between 09h00am and 12H00.

She will then officially launch the public-private sector collaboration as follows:
