Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu opens disability-friendly computer centre in Limpopo, 26 Sept

The Deputy Minister of Social Development, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, will on Wednesday 26 September, unveil a computer laboratory for learners with disabilities in Bochum, Limpopo Province. 

Established in 1980, the Helen Franz Special School accommodates 331 learners with disabilities. The school employs 34 teachers, one social worker and 51 support staff.

The disability-friendly computer lab comprises 33 computers with assistive programmes that enable learners to use their chins to operate the computers. The computers are equipped with additional programmes that translate the learners’ thoughts to words.

The lab has three computer key boards, a white interactive white board, 33 computers as well as a printer that prints documents in braille. This initiative is part of the implementation of the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (WPRPD) as approved in 2015 by Cabinet.

Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu will hold a meeting with 200 parents of learners with disabilities before the unveiling of the computer centre.
