Deputy Minister Thembi Siweya engages farm owners on compliance with Coronavirus COVID-19 regulations, 23 Jul

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya will engage farm owners on compliance with COVID-19 regulations. The programme is a response to the President’s declaration that all Ministers and Deputy Ministers will be deployed to various districts in the country to monitor compliance with the COVID-19 regulations.

The Deputy Minister has been allocated the Sekhukhune District as a site of monitoring and will target various centres of services delivery to ensure compliance with regulations and the district’s response to socio-cultural, health and economic issues such as Gender Based Violence, Alcohol abuse, stigmatization, readiness of the health facilities, and support to Small Medium Enterprises.

The programme is also part of the ongoing frontline monitoring of government services by the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), which reports to the Ministry in the Presidency.

Farming is a strategic sector of the country’s economy and largely accounts for the preservation of food security in the country. It is necessary that the sector complies with the COVID-19 regulations; save the lives of the employees and sustain productivity.
