Deputy Minister Thembi Siweya discusses measures to curb spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, 6 Apr

Consultation with traditional healers and awareness campaign for COVID-19

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya, MP, will visit the Chairperson of the Traditional Healers Association, Ngaka Conrad Tsiane, at his home to discuss measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. The Deputy Minister will be joined by the Premier of the Limpopo Province, MEC of Health, MEC of Social Development, the Executive Mayor and Local Mayor.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, Government has engage various stakeholders to foster a common national approach to the fight against the pandemic. The Traditional Healers Association is a critical stakeholder that interacts with most of our people and provide traditional forms of treatment, medicine and spiritual healing. The visit to the Chairperson of the Traditional Healers Association is part of the ongoing engagement with all stakeholders and to mobilise society to unite against the spread of the COVID-19.

Subsequent to the meeting with the Chairperson of the Traditional Healers Association, Deputy Minister Siweya and the provincial leadership will transition to the Janefurse Plaza to distribute sanitizers and GCIS information packs on COVID-19.

The World Health Organisation has declared the Corona Virus outbreak as a global pandemic. Government has declared a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act to enable the country to have an integrated and coordinated disaster management mechanism that will focus on preventing and reducing the outbreak of this virus. The President Subsequent announced a 21-day National Lockdown to reduce the spread of the COVID-19.
