Deputy Minister Thembi Siweya celebrates Mandela Month with elderly people in Olifanshoek, 22 Jul

The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya, MP, will visit and interact with the elderly people as part of the Mandela Month Programme in Olifantshoek, Vhembe District, Limpopo on 22 July 2019.

As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Siweya, together with the Limpopo Department of Health, will bring along a mobile clinic and young dentists to provide dental health services to 200 elderly people. The Deputy Minister will also handover blankets to the elderly people as part of the broader efforts to encourage society to care and support them.

Many of these elderly people have raised responsible and professional citizens of our people; have resiliently battled poverty and are often violated by the very same children and community. This visit is intended to galvinise communities to treat the elderly with respect and dignity. The Mandela Day is celebrated each year on 18 July in honour of the late Former President Nelson Mandela's birthday.

In our country, July has been dedicated as a Nelson Mandela Month to encourage active citizenry. In honour of our stalwart, we are all called upon to take action; inspire change; make every day a Mandela Day. This is based on the principle that our cumulative individual efforts have the potential to change society.
