Deputy Minister Thembi Siweya and MEC Boitumelo Moiloa launch SA Post Office’s new cashless ATMs, 4 May

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya will be joining Ms Boitumelo Moiloa, MEC of Social Development, Northwest Province and Ms Colleen Makhubela, Chairperson of the Board of the SA Post Office in the launch of SA Post Office’s new cashless ATMs solution that will serve as an additional social grants payment platform located within communities.

The introduction of this solution is opportune in regards to the country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic in regards to social distancing. Benefits it will provide social grants beneficiaries includes:

  • Decongestion and reduce queues at current payment points for social grants (Post Office branches, retail merchants and bank ATMs) by increasing points where SASSA grants can be accessed;
  • Stimulate local economic activity as SASSA beneficiaries will be spending their grant money with merchants within their locality; and
  • Assist social grants beneficiaries to stretch their rand value as they will no longer have to travel to reach grants payments access points

The SAPO cashless ATMs will be deployed within the premises of local community and township traders, thus assist in the facilitation of local economic activity given that social grants beneficiaries will be collecting from, and/or spending their grant money with, these traders.
