The Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Thembi Siweya, will visit conduct frontline monitoring at the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to assess progress in the implementation of the Aerotropolis Catalytic Projects which were unveiled in 2015.
The visit is part of an ongoing Frontline Service Delivery Monitoring programme in the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME). Government views these projects as an important catalyst in stimulating the economy and hold the view that it will contribute towards the economic recovery plan beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The country’s economy has been grossly affected by COVID-19 which translates into loss of employment and livelihoods.
As part of the frontline monitoring activities, Deputy Minister Siweya will receive a briefing from the municipality and proceed to visit the OR Tambo International Airport expansion, OR Tambo International Airport Special Economic Zone Development (GIDZ) and the Riverfields Mixed Use Expansion.
Several National and provincial departments in the economic space have been invited to form part of the inspection and contribute in addressing emerging challenges.
