Deputy Minister Obed Bapela to participate in a virtual Heritage Month celebration hosted by the Institutions of Traditional Leadership

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr Obed Bapela will on the 17th September 2020 participate in a virtual heritage month celebration webinar hosted by the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) in collaboration with other institutions of Traditional Leadership and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), under the theme - “Celebrating South Africa’s living human treasures”.

The institution of Traditional Leadership in South Africa constitutes an integral part of our societal structures that are charged with the responsibility of preserving and protecting our diverse cultures and heritage. As custodians of tradition and culture, Traditional Leaders play a pivotal role in instilling positive societal values rooted in our rich indigenous knowledge.

In keeping with the theme, the webinar aims to celebrate our living heritage through the promotion of positive societal values. The unfortunate scourge of gender-based violence necessitates for the institutions of traditional leadership to assume their rightful place in societal discourse by urging the inculcation of positive social behaviour.
