Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu opens Oral History Association of South Africa Conference, 9 Oct

Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu to open the 2018 Oral History Association of South Africa (OHASA) Conference in Milnerton, Cape Town

The Department of Arts and Culture is mandated by Cabinet to spearhead the National Oral History Programme for South Africa. The programme seeks to yield information that will be added to the information already existing in the country’s Archival holdings.

The Oral History Association of South Africa (OHASA) holds conferences annually hosted on rotational basis by Provinces. The Department of Arts and Culture will in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and OHASA  host the 15th Annual National Oral History conference.

The dissemination and management of information and knowledge is crucial to the restoration and sustenance of human dignity of many millions of people, which was ravaged by colonialism and apartheid.

The conference will be officially opened by the Department of Arts and Culture’s Deputy Minister Makhotso Sotyu and will be held over three days wherein learners and Oral History practitioners will present on several topics and sub-themes and also host panel discussions.

The 2018 conference theme is “Freedom and Egalitarianism: Nelson Mandela, The Symbol of Democracy”
