Deputy Minister John Jeffery holds Human Rights engagement with legal fraternity, 13 Mar

Human Rights engagement with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the legal fraternity

The Deputy Minister of Justice & Constitutional Development, Hon. John Jeffery in his capacity as the Co-Chairperson of the Legal & Human Rights Technical Task Team will engage with lawyers, advocates, human rights practitioners and activists in an effort to rally the legal fraternity behind South Africa’s National Human Rights Plan on Friday, 13 March.

The National Human Rights Plan seeks to, inter alia, address stigma & discrimination meted out against those affected by HIV & TB, specifically key and vulnerable populations. It is also aimed at creating equal access to legal services by addressing human rights-related barriers to HIV, TB & gender-related services.

Prominent social justice activists such as Judge Edwin Cameron and acclaimed human rights organisations inclusive of Pro Bono.Org and Legal Aid South Africa will form part of the engagement led by Deputy Minister John Jeffery. This event will also serve as a precursor for Human Rights Month activities.
