Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe officiates Free State and Northern Cape National Youth Chefs Training graduation, 16 Oct

Free State and Northern Cape Youth Graduate from National Youth Chefs Training Programme (NYCTP)   

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe will officiate a graduation ceremony to honour learners from the Free State and Northern Cape Provinces who participated in the National Youth Chefs Training Programme in the 2017/18 financial year.  

Launched in 2011, the National Youth Chefs Training Programme (NYCTP) forms a part of the broader objectives of the National Tourism Sector Strategy to address skills shortages in the hospitality and tourism sector by capacitating unemployed youth and graduates.

Learners participated in a 10-month training course with the South African Chefs Association that comprised of 30% theory, and 70% work integrated learning (Industry placement). Four hundred and eighty-eight (488) learners from the across the country will graduate as Chefs and receive certificates accredited by City & Guilds in the following:

  • Certificate in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-01)
  • Diploma in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-02)
  • Patisserie (Pastry) in Food Preparation and Cooking (8065-03
