Deputy Minister Chikunga leads District Development Model initiative in Mgungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal, 22 Sept

The Deputy Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, as Umgungundlovu District Champion for the District Development Model (DDM) initiative, will tomorrow and Wednesday, 22- 23 September 2020 visit the District Municipality on a two- day drive to assess the management of Covid 19 pandemic, Gender Based Violence and femicide (GBVF) response, as well as the economic recovery plans for the district in line with the DDM initiative.

Deputy Minister Chikunga, accompanied by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial MEC Ravi Pillay, district and local leadership, provincial and local DDM Champions and senior government officials from various government departments, will inaugurate the DDM Hub and engage with the various stakeholders to assess the intervention plans in place to manage the three crises that are currently crippling the country.

The Deputy Minister will further visit various frontline institutions within the Msunduzi and Mpofana local municipalities to gauge the state of service delivery.

President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2019 introduced the DDM initiative aimed at improving service delivery at the district level and to enhance the capacity of the state.

Government has also pulled all its resources across the country in an effort to mitigate the effects of the ravaging Corona Virus cases and the escalating gender based violence while working on a plan to salvage the economy.
