Deputy Minister Andries Nel to Attend the Vision 2030 Summit

Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Andries Nel will on 20 June 2018, attend and address the Vision 2030 Summit to be held in Emperors Palace, Johannesburg.

The summit was initially endorsed by the National Planning Commission whose objective is to  rally the nation around a common set of objectives and priorities to drive development over the longer term. The Commission advises government on cross- cutting issues that influence the long term development of South Africa.

The spirit of the Vision 2030 is to make the NDP accessible to all South Africans (via the publication); to bring public- and private-sector stakeholders together in partnership to expedite the realisation of the NDP’s goals (the Summit), and to stimulate greater private-sector participation by showcasing organisations making strides in the name of the NDP (the Awards).

CoGTA plays a critical role in the implementation and realisation of the NDP. The NDP highlights the need to strengthen the ability of local government to fulfill their developmental role and the Municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) need to be used more strategically to focus attention on critical priorities in the NDP that relates to the mandate of local government.
