Department of Sport, Arts and Culture to host the 2021 Annual National Archives Awareness Week

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture through its National Archives and Records Service of South Africa in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Archives invite members of the media to the 2021 Annual National Archives Awareness Week from 09 -11 June 2021 in KwaZulu-Natal.

The theme for this year’s Archives Week is “Archives as Memory Institutions, Protecting the Integrity of Organisations through Providing Mechanisms for Good Governance, Legal Certainty and Rights”

This year’s annual archives week will be a hybrid with guests, schools and other participants joining physically at the Mhlathuze Civic Centre and others joining virtually through Microsoft teams, DSAC social media platforms and KZN DAC social media platforms.

The International Council on Archives (ICA) decided that countries should hold an annual Archives Week in their respective countries. This year's Annual Archives Week is meant to promote the use of archives by exposing people to how archives do research, what services they provide, the protocols required to access classified material stored by archival organizations, and how archival collections are used in exhibits.
