Brand South Africa on safeguarding children following fatal incidents

Brand South Africa calls on all citizens to safeguard the future of the country by protecting children

On Wednesday 19 September 2018,  Brand South Africa mourns the death of the Alexandra and Philippi children who’ve passed away due to fires. In two separate incidents, eight children lost their lives due to unmonitored heating appliances in their homes.

In the words of the late statesman Nelson Mandela, “Our children are the rock on which our future will be built, our greatest asset as a nation. They will be the leaders of our country, the creators of our national wealth who care for and protect our people.”

It is important that every individual is reminded of the responsibilities we each have in society for the care and protection of children. As stipulated in the Bill of Rights, Children have the right to be cared for by a family. Children have the right to shelter, health care and to be properly fed.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the children in Alex and Philippi. It is with great sadness that we are hearing of the fires and loss of lives of young children. We pray for healing for these families and for the communities to stand in unison to support them. These tragic incidents and the growing number of destructive fires in our communities is demonstrative of the fact that people need to be better educated on how to prevent fires in their homes.” said Brand South Africa’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ms Linda Magapatona-Sangaret.

Brand South Africa pleads with all citizens to be vigilant in preventing fires and particularly careful with young children in preventing any risk of fire.
