COGTA Minister to attend the KwaZulu-Natal provincial day of prayer and mourning for flood victims

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize will attend the day of prayer and mourning which will be hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial government following the devastating deaths and damage occasioned by the recent floods.

About 70 people were tragically killed when a deluge of rain hit the province about two weeks ago. In its wake, the flooding left many people dead, many families stranded, homes swept away or collapsed and general infrastructure broken and the damage has been estimated at over R1-billion already.

The day of prayer and mourning has been organised in the wake of a proclamation of 7 days of mourning for the flood victims by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The days of mourning start today 1 May 2019 to 7 May 2019 and all flags will fly at half-mast in honour and remembrance of the victims of floods.
