Invitation to comment on the Prescription in Civil and Criminal Matters (Certain Sexual Offences) Amendment Bill, 2019

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development invites interested parties to submit written comments on the Prescription in Civil and Criminal Matters (Certain Sexual Offences) Amendment Bill, 2019. The Bill seeks to amend the Prescription Act, 1969, so as to extend the list of sexual offences in respect of which prescription does not commence to run under certain circumstances in respect of a debt based on the commission of any of those alleged sexual offences; to amend the Criminal Procedure Act, 1977, so as to extend the list of sexual offences in respect of which a prosecution may be instituted after a period of 20 years has lapsed since the date of the alleged commission of a sexual offence; and to provide for matters connected therewith..

Invitation to comment on the Judicial Matters Amendment Bill, 2018

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development invites interested parties to submit written comments on the Judicial Matters Amendment Bill, 2018. The Judicial Matters Amendment Bill, 2018 (the "Bill") seeks to amend numerous Acts, most of which are administered by the Department.

The amendments are intended to address practical or technical issues, and to give effect to court judgements. The individual provisions of the Bill were developed in conjunction with or at the request of the various stakeholders.

Comments must be submitted by not later than 31 March 2019, for the attention of Ms T Skhosana, and if—
