The Department of Arts and Culture has been supporting the LETPC since its inception in 2015. The first event was inaugurated by the Minister of Arts and Culture Honourable Nathi Mthethwa. The department has extended further commitment by providing additional two years support from 2019 to 2021.
South African Roadies Association (SARA) through the support of the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) is hosting Africa’s 5th Live Event Technical & Production Conference (LETPC 2019) from today, 16 to 18 May 2019, at the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Park town, Johannesburg.
The opportunity offered to attendees at LETPC 2019, is to engage and exchange on how exactly those engaged in the sector will sustain employment using skills of the future.
The Live Event Technical and Production Conference 2019 occurs at a critical time in the development and growth of sector skill demand in a market place set upon by the 4th industrial revolution and digital economy including AI, robotics and machine learning that is set to decimate employment opportunities in many sectors. The aim of the conference is to discuss training and skill development for professionals and practitioners within the events, technical, production and education sectors sustainable job creation and economic growth.
Subsequently to the inception of Live Event Technical & Production Conference in 2015, a number of specific purposes have emerged. LETPC 2019 to integrate with event technical production and performance sector professionals with skills development and educational professionals in the same place to exchange information and discuss current and future matters concerning the live event, technical production sectors, in particular skills.
The LETPC 2019 has attracted speakers, panelists and attendees from across live event technical production and performance sectors as well as from education, skills development and professional bodies. Notwithstanding South Africa, countries featuring this year include Kenya, Ghana, Netherlands, UK, USA, Denmark, Nigeria and Germany.
Some of the topics to be embarked upon during this three day long programme are; The Inclusion of the Event, Technical & Production Sector in the White Paper, On The road: where we were, where we are and where we are going, The State of Technical and Production Skills and Services in Kenya, Educational Standard and Occupation and the challenges of real time vocal special effect delivery during live performance.
This three daylong event is part of the many activities happening around the country towards the celebration of Arica Month under the theme: “Celebrating 25 Years of Democracy: Building a Better Africa and a Better World.”
The month of May is an opportunity to promote African unity, deeper regional integration and recommit Africa to a common destiny. A focal point being to promote and support the preservation and revival of indigenous languages, and to create discussion platforms for South Africans, in particular local communities, to engage in conversations on Africa’s past, present and future, to foster solidarity and build unity.
The LETPC also occurs in the context of the celebration of 25 years of democracy, wherein huge strides, particularly in providing our people with access to a wide range of basic services has been observed and more opportunities having been created for participation in the economy.
