South Africa Cultural Seasons in Kenya
The South African Government through the Department of Arts and Culture and the South African High Commission in Kenya will host the South African Cultural Seasons in Kenya from the 25th of February 2019 to 02nd of March 2019 with the aim of cementing and deepening the people to people relations between and amongst African countries and people in general and Kenya in particular. The seasons also seek to promote regional integration and support efforts towards expanded trade of our cultural goods and services, and promotion of cultural diplomacy as part of Governments broader socio-economic agenda.
This year on the 27 April 2019, South Africa will mark the 25th anniversary of democracy and freedom in South Africa. This is the time to reflect on the journey the country has undertaken, focusing on highlights and also planning for the future. The South Africa Cultural Seasons in Kenya will be hosted under the theme, Celebrating 25 Years of Democracy and Freedom.
This Cultural Seasons is also aimed at the implementation of the African Union Charter for Africa’s cultural Renaissance and the African Union Agenda 2063, which both elaborate on the importance of Africa’s total emancipation and development, and call for Africa to unite in cultural diversity and Africa Renaissance through creative and cultural industries.
The Cultural Seasons Programme in Kenya is crafted to pay particular attention to sharing experiences through various art forms, with a specific focus on forging unity and integration, as well as collaborations in between South African and Kenyan Artists through the master classes that are planned.
The South Africa Cultural Seasons in Kenya includes a star studded line-up including Amanda Black, Thee Legacy, Nelisiwe Sibiya, Madala Kunene, Natalia Molebatsi, the Poet and Hlubi Kwebulana the Creative and Show Director. We also have the talented dancers from INGOMA and Chefs Nompumelelo Mqwebu and Lesego Semenya.
During the opening, the, the cuisine of South Africa will be presented by the amazing cuisines of South Africa. All the people of South Africa share its flavours and will always tell their stories around fire and food.
Film also plays an important part in telling the South African story. Movies selected are Mandela Long Walk to Freedom, Beyond the River, Khumba and Fanie Fourie’s Lobola.
