Arts and Culture hosts Inaugural BRICS Fashion Show and Fashion Business Forum, 24 to 26 Oct

South Africa welcomes International Designers for the Inaugural BRICS Fashion Show, Sandton City

As the year 2018 completes the first decade of the BRICS Summit, the South African Government through the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) will host the Inaugural BRICS Fashion Show and Fashion Business Forum from 24 - 26 October 2018 at the Sandton City, Johannesburg in Gauteng during the South African Fashion Week (SAFW).  The fashion showpiece forms part of the 10th BRICS Summit recently hosted under the theme, ‘’Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution”.
 
Hosted in partnership with the South African Fashion Week, the BRICS Fashion Show and the Fashion Business Forum are among others aimed at showcasing textile and retail opportunities within BRICS countries; creating a platform for fashion designers to participate in each other’s premier fashion shows; discussing and collaborating on fashion-related issues; as well as to creating a market access and consumption of fashion among BRICS countries.  
 
“BRICS Fashion extravaganza is in line with the department’s commitment to building sustainable business to business collaborations amongst the Fashion Designers of the BRICS countries as a means to access markets across the fashion industry”, stated Minster Nathi Mthethwa.
 
The Inaugural BRICS Fashion show - takes place during the South African Fashion Week (SAFW). During this week, a total of 10 designers from each member state will showcase some of their most exciting local and international designs on the 24th and 25th of October 2018 at the Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square at 16h00. The fashion extravaganza will be followed by the Fashion Business Forum on the 26th of October 2018 at Lesedi Cultural Village, Johannesburg. Fashion and textile designers, agents and distributors and representatives from across the fashion industry will join a conversation in which opportunities for ‘Collaboration’, ‘Growth’ and ‘Shared Prosperity’ as per the theme for the 10th BRICS Summit will be addressed.
 
“The chairmanship of BRICS Summit 2018 presents an opportunity for the country to leave a legacy associated with hosting the event of this magnitude. As the BRICS Chair, South Africa intends to build on the legacy of 2013 and to continue working towards strengthening relations between BRICS and the African continent on the Arts and Culture category,” Concluded Minister Mthethwa.
