Communications Deputy Minister to talk Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development with University of Mpumalanga students

Communications Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana is to address the Mobile Learning Week Seminar Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development at the University of Mpumalanga on  Friday 26th April 2019. 

“Digital technology and Artificial Intelligence is not the future anymore; it’s the present; it has taken off , our role  as government is to  drive  awareness around the opportunities  around the Artificial  Intelligence”, said  Deputy Minister  Pinky Kekana.

The department working through the UNESCO Communications and Information (CI) Sector, is coordinating a seminar themed: “Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development”.

The seminar will take place at the University of Mpumalanga and will focus on the following sub-themes:

  • Threats and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence in Education
  • The upsurge of Artificial Intelligence
  • Readiness of SADC region
  • How to ensure inclusive and equitable use of Artificial Intelligence in education
  • How to leverage Artificial Intelligence to enhance education and learning
  • How to promote skills development for jobs and life in the Artificial Intelligence era
  • How to safeguard transparent and adaptable use of education data

Further, the Mobile learning week seminar will highlight the importance of gearing education and training systems South Africa to the ongoing revolution in technology. In our increasingly connected world, digital skills are a pre-requisite for economic and social inclusion, we need innovative policies and investments to bridge digital divides, provide all learners with digital skills and vastly expand opportunities to acquire them throughout life.
