Government hosts Thusong Service Centre Week, 16 to 20 Sept

Annual Thusong Service Centre Week kicks off from 16 to 20 September 2019

On 16 to 20 September 2019, Government kicks-off the annual Thusong Service Centre Week campaign to raise awareness on the integrated services offered at the various Thusong Service Centers in the country and showcase the success stories of the Thusong Service Centre Programme.

The 2019 Thusong Service Centre Week campaign is part of the Public Service Month and takes place under the theme "Khawuleza", Taking Services to the People, Batho Pele" We Belong, We Care, We Serve".

Conceptualized in 2012, the week seeks to promote the Thusong Programme by showcasing the integrated mobile outreach programme and its effectiveness in responding to the needs of the citizens amongst other things.

The year 2019 marks exactly 20 years since the existence of the Thusong Service Centre Programme which was initiated in 1999 as one of the access strategy aimed at redressing the imbalances of the past by taking services and information closer to the people. This was done to address historical, social and economic factors, which limited access to information, services and participation by citizens, as they had to travel long distances to access these services.

The programme for the Thusong Service Centre Week includes three key activities:

  • Thusong Programme Indaba on 17 September at the Cape Town ICC.
  • Thusong Service Centre Excellent Awards on 17 September at Grand West Casino in Cape Town. The event aims to reward excellence within the Thusong Service Programme.
  • Open Days and with Integrated Mobile service outreach will be hosted at Thusong Service Centers country-wide.
