Alert level 1 lockdown in numbers – 28 February 2021

  • More than one-and-a-half million – people in South Africa infected with the Coronavirus Disease since March 2020, by 28 February 2021.
  • Nearly 50 000 – people in South Africa reported to have died from the disease, by 28 February 2021.
  • More than 67 000 – health workers vaccinated by 28 February 2021.
  • 80 000 – doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine which arrived in the country on 27 February 2021.
  • 17 – number of vaccination sites by 28 February 2021.
  • 49 – number of vaccination sites from March 2021.
  • 32 – number of vaccination sites at public hospitals.
  • 17 – number of vaccination sites at private hospitals.
  • 11 million – doses to be secured from Johnson & Johnson.
  • 2,8 million – Johnson & Johnson doses to be delivered in the second quarter and the rest spread throughout the year.
  • 20 million – doses secured from Pfizer, to be delivered from the second quarter.
  • 12 million – vaccine doses secured from the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) facility.
