The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) will on Thursday, 1 December hold a special sitting on South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET-IP) and followed its 8th Ordinary Quarterly meeting on Friday, 2 December.
The special sitting is a hybrid session on “understanding the contents of South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Investment Plan”. The session is intended to establish a good understanding of the contents of the all sections of the JET-IP in preparation for the consultation process agreed at the Special PCC meeting held on 4th November 2022, addressed by the President.
At the request of the President, and following its successful launch at COP27, the PCC is initiating consultations and submissions from the social partners on the Just Energy Transition Investment Plan with and intention to consolidate inputs arising from such consultations into a set of recommendations to the President and government.
The ordinary quarterly meeting will amongst others provide a report on the key outcomes from the 27th Conference of Parties (COP27) to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) by Minister Barbara Creecy and provide a way forward on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The Commission will also consider recommendations based on assessments of the KwaZulu-Natal floods and further engage in discussions on emerging and priority issues.
