8TH Annual National School Moot Court Finals culminate at Constitutional Court

The 2018 National Moot Court Competition will this week kick off from Wednesday 03 October 2018 as the nation’s finest critical thinkers, debaters and future litigators take their cases to court in the National Finals of the 2018 Moot Court.

Since its inception in 2011, the Moot Court Programme has managed to explore various sections of Bill of rights such as Rights, Equality, Freedom of expression and Human dignity, offering a dialogic and experiential platform for young people to experiment with the actual application of the country’s supreme law.

The Moot Court comprises of four stages which include registration, essay workshops, essay writing, Provincial and National finals. As part of preparing learners adequately for the 8th National School Moot Programme, workshops have been conducted in collaboration with the University of Pretoria, Private law firms, Department of Justice, South African Legal Aid Board and Foundations for Human Rights across all Provinces. The competition is not only about the law but about helping impart to learners the founding values that underpin the country’s Constitutional Law.

Each province will be represented by a delegation of 8 learners during the National finals with prelims and semi-finals taking place on Thursday, 04 and Friday, 05 respectively. The final round of the competition will culminate at the Constitutional Hill. A workshop for the National finalists will be held at the University of Pretoria prepare learners for their final arguments as both applicants and respondents to the 2018 case.
