Minister Michael Masutha announces members of Court-annexed Mediation Advisory Committee, 22 Jan

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Adv Michael Masutha will announce the members of the Court-annexed Mediation Advisory Committee on Tuesday, 22 January 2019.

The mediation service forms part of Government's effort to transform civil justice and enhance access to justice for all South Africans. It provides an alternative dispute resolution mechanism which allows for a negotiated settlement between involved parties and alleviates the sometimes prohibitively high cost of litigation.

Mediation adopts a flexible approach compared to the rigid and tedious legal processes which most often require services of a lawyer to present before court.  Disputes are usually resolved in a reconciliatory manner and mediation, therefore, promotes restorative justice.

The Advisory Committee will oversee the signing of an undertaking by accredited mediators to serve the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development as required by the Court-annexed mediation rules.

Members of the media are invited as follows:
Date: 22 January 2018
