Minister Nathi Nhleko addresses Parliament on suspension of Lieutenant-General Anwa Dramat, 29 Jan

The Portfolio Committee on Police will on Thursday (29 January 2015) receive a briefing from the Police Minister on the current developments regarding the recent suspension of Lieutenant-General Anwa Dramat, head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS).

Mr Beukman says the Committee scheduled this meeting earlier this month in the wake of recent developments within the directorate. He added that it was important for the Committee, as the relevant parliamentary oversight body, to be fully briefed by the Executive Authority on leadership issues affecting any efforts geared towards fighting crime, especially organised crime. “The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is responsible for uprooting any form of organised crime in the country, so it is very important for them to always have stable leadership,” said Mr Beukman.

Details of the meeting are as follows:

Time: 9h00
Venue: Committee Room V454, Fourth Floor, Old Assembly Building
Date: Thursday, 29 January 2015
