Minister Mthethwa to address commemoration of signing peace accord between ANC and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP)

Prior to the dawn of democracy in 1994, the KwaZulu-Natal province experienced intense political in-fighting and violence which left many families destitute and losing loved ones.

However through various initiatives, cooperation and peacemaking programmes with various stakeholders, peace and stability was restored.

It is against this background that the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa will give a keynote address at the commemoration of the "21 Years of Signing Long Lasting Historic Peace Accord Pact between ANC and IFP".

The minister will utilise this opportunity to not only commemorate this historic occasion which resulted in political tolerance, but utilise the platform to call upon local communities to work with government in the fight against crime.

The working together approach with communities, religious denominations, youth formations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), business as well as political organisations; forms part of the ministry's approach in dealing a blow to crime.
