Minister Gugile Nkwinti to address the National Khoi-San Indaba in Kimberly

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Gugile Nkwinti cordially invites members of the media to the first National Khoi-San Indaba to be held at Mittah Seperepere Centre in Kimberly on 15 to 16 April 2013.

In his State of the Nation Address, President Zuma announced the re-opening of the lodgement of land claims for those who could not claim during the first window of opportunity. This announcement had two aspects to it. Firstly, the reopening of the lodgement of land claims, and secondly, the creation of exceptions to the 1913 Natives Land Acts for heritage sites, historic landmarks and opportunities for the descendants of the Khoi and San to claim.

It is within this context that various government departments such as Cogta, Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, DAC and different organisations such as, Five Khoi-San Groups, PanSALB, San Institute, SA San Council, SAHRA, CRL, DIRCO led by Department of Rural Development and Land Reform plans to meet with the Khoi San community in a two days Indaba at Kimberly in Northern Cape.

The main aim of the meeting is to:

  • Consult the Khoisan Community regarding the lodgement of claims
  • Explain the business process of Restitution.
  • Explain how the citizen’s manual will be used during the lodgement of Land Claims.
