Higher Education and Training sector gearing up for enhanced performance

All state entities and institutions that fall within Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Dr Blade Nzimande’s portfolio, and key stakeholders, will spend the three days after the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) in a strategic planning session to strengthen coordination and align their priorities for enhanced performance behind the Minister’s vision for the sector.

From Friday 15 to 17 February about 200 representatives from the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), 23 Universities, 50 Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges, Quality Councils, senior departmental officials will deliberate ways of enhancing coordination, coherence and integrating the work of the sector in line with Minister Nzimande’s vision and his Delivery Agreement for Outcome 5. Members of Parliamentary Committees as well as the Office of the Auditor-General will also participate and advise from an oversight point of view.

It will be the first time all of the entities that fall under Minister’s Nzimande’s mandate and key stakeholders will be addressed by the Minister at the same time and in the same venue since the Minister was appointed in 2009.

In his responsibility for Higher Education and Training in the country, Minister Nzimande is charged with producing a skilled and capable workforce for an inclusive growth path.
