Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet turns attention to Nelson Mandela Metro

Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet will tomorrow continue giving away gift vouchers and groceries worth R170 000 to 100 poor families in the Nelson Mandela Metro. The event will take place in Nangoza Jebe Hall in Newbrighton at 10h00. The programme is aimed at ensuring that the beneficiaries also enjoy the festive season like the rest of other people in the province. Beneficiaries from various parts of the Metro will be on hand to receive their Christmas goodies.

“Many of our people live in poverty and this programme is meant to show them that the government of the Eastern Cape cares about them and will continue to do more to lift them out of poverty. We call on other citizens of our province to show ubuntu and share with the less fortunate during this festive season.” Premier Kiviet she said.

Included in the grocery packs are items such as 10kgs for rice, sugar, mealie meal, samp and other items. The Premier together with South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have invested over R1 500 000.00 in the programme this year benefiting over 900 families in the province. The programme was started by the Premier in 2009 and has benefited thousands of families throughout the province.
