Minister Gugile Nkwinti launches Mzimvubu Water Project’s advanced infrastructure

On Monday 18 February 2019, Minister Gugile Nkwinti of Water and Sanitation launched the Mzimvubu Water Project’s advanced infrastructure at Esiqhungqwini Village in the Tsolo Magisterial District. This infrastructure will allow easy access to the dam site and water treatment works. The Minister used the launch to introduce the construction unit and plant hire to the community.

The construction of the advance infrastructure will take about 9 months to complete. The project will cost R113 million. The Department of Water and Sanitation will use its internal Construction Unit to construct the access roads and the entire project. It will only look for skills outside when the required skills are not available within the department.

The Minister appealed to engineering students to come and learn technical skills during the construction of the project. He also appealed to Community Development Workers to work together with the Project Oversight Committee in identifying people with skills in various fields, because the local community is expected to benefit in terms of jobs that will be created and sub-contracting where possible.
