International Cross Border Mountain Bike Race
During her 2018 Budget Vote Speech, the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs. Mathabo Leeto, stated that the Free State Province in partnership with the Lesotho Government will host the International Cross Border Mountain Bike Race. Other partners involved in the Race are Federation of Cycling Lesotho, Free State Cycling, Free State Academy of Sport and Lesotho Sport and Recreation Council.
The Race is sanctioned by Cycling SA and will take place over a period of three (3) days and will take place as follows:
First Stage (Ficksburg, Free State)
Date: 22 February 2019
Time: 10H00
Venue: Ficksburg High School, Free State (Official Starting Point)
Second Stage (Ficksburg to Lesotho)
Date: 23 February 2019
Time: 06H00
Venue: Ficksburg High School, Free State (Official Starting Point)
Third Stage ( Lesotho to Ficksburg, Finish line)
Date: 24 February 2019
Time: 07H30
Venue: Lesotho Golf Club (Official Starting Point)
Participants and winners in this Race will be awarded medals and the top five (5) positions in each category of both males and females will be awarded the following prize monies:
- 1st place R20 000
- 2nd place R10 000
- 3rd place R5 000
- 4th place R2 000
- 5th place R1 000
Winners of stage 1 King/Queen of the Mountain will receive R2000. Total prize money is shared between FS and Lesotho and amounts to R40 000 each.
The Price Giving Ceremony will be held at Ficksburg High School in Ficksburg, Free State on 24 February 2019 at 13H00.
